Position Title: Support Nurse (RN/LPN)

 

Job Classification: Support Staff, Class 10, $32.76/hour (10 months per year)

 

Qualifications:  

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Pennsylvania license as a Registered Nurse or Pennsylvania license as a Practical Nurse
  3. CPR Certification
  4. At least three (3) years experience in a health care environment
  5. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate effectively with children and their parents
  6. Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality
  7. Any additional or alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of School Directors 

Principal Functions:   

 

To assist the Certified School Nurse in providing health services to the District’s school-age children.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*:

 

  1. Assist with the maintenance of student health records and all required reports, including, but not limited to, the Monthly Report and Federal Report, as well as student and staff emergency cards and immunization records as follows:
    • School Health Records – Copies enrollment lists with health records to verify the information on file for each student. On an annual basis, up-date students’ charts by inserting current term and present grade level information
    • Monthly Reports – Compile and retain daily information required for the Monthly Report.
    • Other Clerical Tasks; send, collect and file permission forms related to health care; file all forms in student health records; assist with the collection of data for immunization audits and verify the immunization of all students; verify the receipt and the completeness of all information on each student’s emergency card, including, but not limited to, the parental permission for treatment.
    • Complete the clerical tasks for medication examinations and screenings
  2. Administer first-aid care to students, staff and visitors in accordance with the standing orders from the District’s medical advisors. Complete and record required information regarding care given.
  3. Complete the basic required yearly screening of measuring and weighing each student and advising the Certified School Nurse of those students who have significant weight fluctuation.
  4. In an emergency situation, contact the parent/guardian and call an ambulance in accordance with the standing orders of the District’s medical advisors and the Certified School Nurse.
  5. Maintain CPR certification.
  6. Administer medications in accordance with school district policies, procedures, and standing orders as approved by the District’s medical advisor and the Board of School Directors and maintain records of those medications administered so long as; proper parental/guardian authorization has been submitted to the Certified SchoolNurse and is being maintained in the student’s medical file; the Certified School Nurse is available for consultation in the dispensing of the medication.
  7. Maintain and assure the confidentiality of all matters pertaining to the health of students and staff.
  8. Maintain an orderly Health Room, including, but not limited to, the desk area and all bulletin boards.
  9. Participate in staff development programs as required by the Nursing Coordinator, Building Principal, and/or Certified School Nurse.
  10. Assume other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Certified School Nurse and/or Nursing Coordinator.
