Position Title: Behavioral Specialist/BCBA

 

Position Summary: The Behavioral Specialist conducts functional analysis assessments and will write behavior intervention plans. Is responsible for generating and implementing programs to remediate behavioral and social problems for students eligible for severely emotionally disturbed and autistic programs, and is also available for consultation to school personnel and parents of these students. Will serve as the district’s behavioral intervention case manager and will train appropriate personnel and provide ongoing consultation and feedback to individuals and classroom teams related to the treatment of behavioral excesses.  Additional duties may be assigned and may include consultation regarding inclusion of students with disabilities, participation in IEP meetings, curriculum development as well as providing trainings to teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents on positive behavioral supports.

 

Qualifications:

Current certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst (BCABA), or eligibility for certification, Master’s Degree from an institution that specializes in the training of Behavioral Intervention Specialist. Must also have experience working with students with autism.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Screen referrals for possible behavioral assessments and intervention.
  2. Participate as a team member in the identification of social/behavioral problems.
  3. Design, implement, and follow-up on behavioral management programs for students to remediate behavioral and social problems.
  4. Plan and confer with the classroom teachers of these students as requested concerning any behavioral, social, or personal problems affecting the students.
  5. Consult with staff on possible referrals for behavioral assessments and intervention.
  6. Conduct direct observations, data collection and clinical interviews.
  7. Train or assist in training of staff in data collection procedures.
  8. Analyze data to empirically derive function(s) of behaviors.
  9. Graph data for presentation and inclusion in functional analysis assessment reports.
  10. Train staff on the implementation of behavioral intervention strategies.
  11. Provide ongoing staff observation and feedback related to treatment integrity.
  12. Engage in data based decision making and modify behavioral intervention plans as needed.
  13. Monitor timelines for the preparation of the behavioral assessment and intervention team.
  14. Assist with the development and documentation of the intervention process.
  15. Monitor the progress of behavioral intervention plans to ensure success for the student.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Supervisor of Special Education.
